Join me this month as I interview Marzena Ermler, Career Services Manager at the New York Public Library. Marzena highlights the importance of resilience and your career. She discusses the many free virtual business services that the library offers to the public. You do not have to be a resident of New York to take advantage of these offerings (and your local library may provide additional services). Marzena created a PDF with key links to many of the NYPL Business Center offerings discussed in our interview. Click here to access it.
This month I speak with yoga therapist and master teacher Nancy O’Brien. Nancy was in a medically induced coma 20 years ago, when she was intubated for six weeks and underwent multiple surgeries. She credits her yoga practice with bringing her back and keeping her going. In practice now since 2006, Nancy is passionate about sharing therapeutic yoga practices with those in need. She’s especially passionate about helping COVID-19 ‘long haulers’—people who continue to struggle with myriad symptoms after recovering, including the effects of intubation.
This month I interview Harvey Deutch, long-time physical therapist and beloved teacher of therapeutic yoga.
In our interview, Harvey discusses the process of working one-to-one by video conferencing, and how that differs from in-person sessions. He also explains how he passionately (and masterfully) integrates therapeutic yoga into physical therapy. Visit Harvey’s website: www.RedHawkPT.com
For 25 years, Rich has instructed chefs in the world-renowned plant-based program at the Natural Gourmet Institute in NYC. He is on faculty at the Institute of Culinary Education, where he teaches Health Supportive Culinary Arts. His specialty is vegan, vegetarian, Indian, Italian, and Ayurvedic cuisine. Deborah Quilter, author and RSI expert believes that when it comes to repetitive strain injuries, the best approach is to avoid them in the first place. Poor alignment, bad posture, inadequate seating, and misinformation about what is truly ergonomic all contribute to potential problems, but they can be averted. Deborah covers these topics and more, sharing a wealth of strategies you can implement today.

To support arthritis awareness, this month I interviewed Dr. Steffany Moonaz. Steffany is the Director of Research at Maryland University of Integrative Health and the founder of the Yoga for Arthritis teacher training program. In addition to training teachers to provide therapeutic yoga for those living with arthritis, Steffany’s website offers a wealth of resources to anyone living with chronic pain or autoimmune conditions.

Meet Dr. Antonella Aguilera, Naturopathic Doctor and Functional Medicine Practitioner. Inspired by her own health challenges, her story is compelling. I suspect many RFL readers will resonate with some of the obstacles she faced, as well as her search for a holistic model to support her recovery.
Meet Susan Douglass, partner at the law firm Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, certified Yoga Teacher, and Pet Therapy Volunteer. Her passion and gratitude come through loud and clear in her inspiring stories of the many lives she and her beloved therapy dogs have touched in the past 20 years.

Meet Patrick McKeown, author of seven books and the Director of Education and Training at the Buteyko Clinic International. The world’s foremost expert on the Buteyko Method, Patrick is also the author of the Oxygen Advantage, in which he describes breathing techniques that improve athletic performance, sleep, and overall well-being.
Meet yoga therapist Claudia Bartsch as she discusses Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. Phoenix Rising was established in 1986 and is a holistic healing art. If you are a fan of yoga and have not yet heard of it, I encourage you to check it out.

Meet Lisa Bowen, founder of The Breathing Retraining Center and learn how she combines a variety of modalities to help her clients achieve optimal breathing.

Meet the owner of The Urban Herbalist, Charlene Muhammad, and learn about her private practice as a credentialed herbalist, nutritionist, and yoga therapist. Download the transcript of the Urban Herbalist interview
